REC PLAST – A Business That Recycles 500 Tons of Waste While Cleaning Kosovo
The Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund is committed to sustainable corporate governance and social responsibility. By continuously coordinating activities with donors, financial institutions, and local regulators, it aims to serve the long-term economic interests of the country, the business community, and society as a whole.
Therefore, this time we selected a special business for this success story—one that directly contributes to improving and cleaning the environment where we live through the collection and processing of waste. Vitomirica, a village near Peja, is a region known for its clean air and beautiful mountain landscapes.
Upon arriving at the RecPlast factory, Shefqeti, the father and initiator of this business, warmly welcomed us and shared many interesting stories from his life. While waiting for the company owner (his son, Fazqeti), we had the opportunity to closely observe the importance of waste collection and recycling.
In a large space filled with plastic waste, it becomes clear how harmful this material would be if left scattered across Kosovo, making the importance of this type of business even more evident.
All collected waste is first sorted and classified, then processed through recycling machines that transform it into raw material.
The final product, colorful plastic granules, is the result of several stages of processing.
“Environmental protection is done by people in need,” said Fazqeti, explaining that waste is collected by economically disadvantaged individuals for whom this is their primary job. Ideally, however, better policies and conditions should be created to support and develop this type of business further.
At RecPlast, we collect and eliminate 500 tons of waste from all over Kosovo every year. Our work contributes to a cleaner Kosovo, the owner stated.
Through a loan guaranteed by the Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund, RecPlast purchased a new recycling machine, increasing the company’s capacity for processing and recycling waste. This expansion will significantly increase the amount of waste collected and recycled, contributing positively to a cleaner environment in Kosovo.
